Project Description

Terrazzo is a composite material, poured in place or precast, comprised of a cement or chemical binder mixed with colour pigments and chippings of other materials, usually marble, quartz, granite or glass. The terrazzo is allowed to cure, then ground and polished to a smooth surface, leaving it with an appearance more uniform than most natural stone types.

Terrazzo is also available in tile form and can sometimes be mistaken for granite. Here in Ireland it is generally only used in supermarkets and commercial applications but, along with polished concrete, it can occasionally be found in family homes.

Terrazzo can give problems too though. The most common problems we encounter with terrazzo floors are loss of shine, scratching, staining, chipping, cracking and excessive lippage on badly laid terrazzo tile floors, as well as problems caused by incorrect sealing and maintenance. Don’t worry, MarbleCare have solutions to deal with all of these problems and more!

Terrazzo restoration and polishing is a highly skilled procedure and should not be confused with mere “cleaning”. Inexperienced individuals, such as tilers, carpet cleaners, wood floor refinishers, and others who don’t specialise exclusively in maintenance of terrazzo and stone, can inadvertently ruin a beautiful floor and involve the owner in further expense for professional repair. MarbleCare provides a complete range of services and solutions to keep your terrazzo floor looking like new and protect your investment, as well as providing every customer with an exclusive MarbleCare Easy-Aftercare program custom-tailored to your individual floor type.
